ODFHS 45th Anniversary Competition
2025 is the 45th anniversary of ODFHS and, in celebration, we’ve decided to mark this with a competition, open to both members and non-members. The subject of the competition is “Who is your most interesting West Lancashire ancestor?” or “What is your most interesting family discovery related to West Lancashire?”. Choose one of these and tell us about it in 300-750 words. Add photos and illustrations as you want.
Entries by email or post - any reasonable format accepted. The winner will get a year’s free membership. Entries must be received by 31st May 2025 and the results will be announced 1st August 2025.
The best entries will be published in the ODFHS Magazine “The Ormskirk and District Family Historian” (subject to space). Full competition rules can be found by following this link (click here).

UK Gift Aid: (UK Residents only)
The UK Government operates a scheme whereby charities such as ODFHS can reclaim the tax previously paid by members on their membership subscriptions. Members who are UK Taxpayers and who wish us to reclaim the tax previously paid should complete the Gift Aid portion of the Application Form or a separate Gift Aid Declaration (Word or PDF). There is no obligation to do so but it will help our finances if you do - at no cost to yourselves. Gift Aid would allow us to reclaim an additional 25p for each £1 of your subscription. Completed Gift Aid Declarations may be returned to the Treasurer at the address on the form. (Note that completed Gift Aid forms may be submitted by email but only scanned copies of completed and signed forms are legally permissible.)
Members’ Interests:
ODFHS maintains a list of surnames of current interest to members in their research. Members’ Interests are published in the members’ area of our website and annually as a printed insert to the November issue of our magazine – but only where permission has been explicitly obtained and only linked to a code. No personal details will be published. Members wishing to submit their surname interests should use the appropriate part of the application/renewal form. Alternately, a separate form can be found at the following link: Members' Interests form (Word or PDF).
------------------
The Society maintains a database of members details, both on computer and the original forms you send us. Officers of the Society, principally the membership secretary, use this to contact members concerning their membership and to ensure that information relating to the ODFHS is circulated to members. The Society membership system cannot function if members do not allow us to retain their information. We do not pass any information to any third parties. Surname interests will only be published if we obtain permission and only linked to a code. No personal details will be published. When a membership in not renewed the Society will send a reminder. If no response is received within a reasonable time then all records for that former member will be destroyed.
