Hi, a group of us are hoping to do some research into WW1 casualties named on family headstones in the Old graveyard at St Andrew's Church. A few years ago i was given a CD of the New graveyard, produced by the O&DFHS. Would you know if there is any similar production for the old cemetery? Any information would be gratefully received.

The DVD of the Old Chapel Graveyard was completed in 2018, it includes photographs of all the discernible graves and transcriptions. The DVD is priced at £10.00 +p&p and is available by download or on a DVD disc. Don't miss the memorial to Charles Mawdsley US NR, Died as a hero in the Bay of Biscay 16/09/1918. If you visit this ancient graveyard wear wellingtons as there are sometimes things that bite in the grass. For further information email the secretary (see "Contact" on our website at odfhs.website)

There may be 10 memorials that mention 1stWW deaths. Among them is Charles Mawdsley who was born just about where Central Square now stands and John Oscar Pilkington born in Bank House, Green Lane, opposite the Coach & Horses Pub. Apart from their mention on family graves in Maghull, they have no other memorials in Maghull. The DVD has a searchable MASTERSEARCH facility which makes finding these memorials (by year or name) very easy.

The cd of the Old Graveyard has been a great help.
Did the Society do the same sort of thing for any other graveyards, in Lydiate, Melling, Sefton and surrounding parishes?

ODFHS have recorded 20 graveyards (so far) and all our products (including Burial books) are available on www.parishchest.com/ormskirk-district-fhs-3508.php The link on the front page of our website takes you straight there.
