I am just looking into my family tree. My great granddad was Joseph Michael O'Reilly born 20th Sept 1903 at 24 Hants Lane, Ormskirk. His father is John O'Reilly described as a bricklayer's labourer. I was wondering if anyone had any photographs/maps of Hants lane at this time? I would like to read about what life might have been like. Where would John have worked as a bricklayers labourer? I live in Lancaster and have never visited Ormskirk before. I would like to in the future. Thank you.

My Mum was born at 27 Hants Lane, so the opposite side of the road. My Nan had lives there from 1890 and I spent a lot of time there as a child. From Green Lane, on the even side of the road, there were a couple of houses then St. Annes Catholic School, the Cottage Hospital and another house at the end leading onto Burscough Street. On the odd side from Green Lane, was a row of Terraced Houses, 2up 2 down. up to my Nan's house, 27, then a Court (row of small terraced houses) running down the side of 27, a roadway off, followed by about 4 slightly larger terraced houses and then a playing field, with 4 council houses at the end leading to Burscough Street. Many of the residents of the Lane and the surrounding area were Irish. I will look for some photos for you. This email address is being protected from spambots.
